“The Take Away Hearing Test”
Local experts provide free Test Cards
Local Hearing and Audiology experts, the Oxford Hearing Centre are highlighting the growing problem of hearing loss by providing innovative take away hearing 'Test Cards'.
The hearing test is cleverly hidden inside a printed card, containing four tiny loudspeakers. When a button is pressed, one of four tones can be heard, one low, one mid range, one high and one ultra high. It's a simple and very effective way in which a snap shot can be taken of a person's hearing.
Richard Moss RHAD, FSHAA, MRSH, Senior Partner of the Oxford Hearing Centre said:
"Until now, these cards have not been available in the UK. I first saw them in the USA and thought they were an effective but simple way to check hearing and to give an early indication of any hearing difficulty. So we located the company producing the cards and arranged to trial them in the Oxford area."
"Amazingly 48 million Britons have never considered having their hearing checked although they realise that regular sight tests and dental check-ups are a necessity".
Richard continues:
"We’ve already found the test cards are very helpful for those with friends or relatives who are unaware that they have a hearing loss. They can provide a helpful first step prior to any formal advice."
"The simple test cards give more information about the prevalence of undiagnosed hearing difficulty and to make everyone more aware of just how precious their sense of hearing is."
As Richard Moss concludes:
"We live in an increasingly noisy world that can affect our hearing and damage can remain undetected for too long."
The Take Away Hearing Test Cards are available free from the Oxford Hearing Centre together with useful accompanying information. Those using the cards are simply asked to return them or pass them on.
