Plug your partner's snoring!

Many people snore so loudly that their partners should now wearing hearing protection!

In fact a recent Danish study found that many people snore at noise levels over 90 decibels – loud enough, over time, to potentially damage their partner’s hearing.

Richard Moss RHAD FSHAA MRSPH, Hearing Aid Audiologist, and senior partner at the Oxford Hearing Centre explains;

"UK Employment Health and Safety laws require ear protection to be worn by people working in environments where the noise level is above 80 decibels."

"Some recorded snoring levels have been in excess of 90 decibels, which is equivalent to the noise created by heavy traffic in a busy city, when you consider that normal breathing is in the region of 10 decibels, this is not what you want to listen to when trying to get to sleep!"

"In other words, if the workplace regulations extended to bedrooms, both the loudest snorers and their partners would be required to wear hearing protection!"

"Whilst wearing earplugs may not seem the most attractive option for the bedroom it may be the most sensible”, says Richard, "as there is a risk of potential noise induced hearing loss. In addition the effects of sleep deprivation can lead to stress, lack of attention and associated medical problems".

"When most people think of earplugs they imagine those rather uncomfortable spongy looking things that often don’t fit properly", says Richard "However, with the benefit of audiological technology we can now supply something far more effective and comfortable, so people don’t even know they are wearing them".

"Custom made earplugs are designed to be moulded painlessly to the ear of the wearer, so they fit exactly and act as a highly effective barrier to external noise."

"We make custom earplugs for many people", said Richard. "Musicians, pilots, and people in industry, and now that list is being joined by the long suffering partners of snorers".
